Privacy policy

This page explains which personal data the oploguns.com site processes when you read it, search its articles, use the shooting range map or the firearms explorer, or write to us; why, for how long, and what you can demand at any time.

1. Data controller

Anthony Baillon (Individual — non-professional publisher), publisher of the oploguns.com site, hereafter "we".

The controller is currently an individual: there is no company and no data protection officer, as appointing a DPO is not required for processing of this nature and scale.

2. Guiding principle

We sell no data and earn no advertising revenue from it. No advertising tracker is embedded in the site. The site uses audience measurement (Google Analytics 4), with no advertising feature and only if you accept it; how it works, the cookies it sets and how to refuse it are detailed in the cookie settings.

3. Data processed

3.1 Simply reading the site

If you read the site without filling anything in, our host keeps technical connection logs (IP address, date, page requested) for security and diagnostic purposes. If you accept audience measurement, Google Analytics also records the pages read, the country and the path by which you arrived, using a random identifier (see the cookie settings). Searching the articles and the firearms explorer run in your browser: what you type there is not sent to us.

3.2 Contact form

When you write from the Contact page, we record: your e-mail address, the name you give, the subject of the request, where applicable the name of your club and its number of members, the page the request came from, the message you write, the date and time it was sent, and the IP address it was sent from.

Each message is saved in full in a Google Cloud storage space located in France (europe-west9 region, Paris), closed to any public access. It is not sent by e-mail: an alert tells hello@oploguns.com that a message has arrived, without repeating its content, and the message is read directly in that storage.

• Legal basis: your consent, given by sending the form.
• Purpose: replying to you.
• Recipient: the publisher alone. These addresses are not transferred, rented or used for anything else.
• Retention: 12 months from sending, then automatic deletion. Earlier erasure on simple request to hello@oploguns.com.
• Whether it is compulsory: name, e-mail address and message are needed to reply to you; the rest is optional.

3.3 Shooting range map

The map shows a base map supplied by the French public service Institut national de l'information géographique et forestière (IGN, Géoplateforme). When you use it, your browser downloads the tiles of the area you are looking at directly from the IGN: the IGN therefore receives your IP address and the coordinates of the displayed area. If you search for a range around an address, the text you type is sent to the Base Adresse Nationale (public service, api-adresse.data.gouv.fr), which receives it with your IP address. If you choose "around me", your position is only requested from your browser, which first asks for your permission: it is sent neither to us nor to the Base Adresse Nationale. It is used to centre the map, whose tiles for the displayed area are then requested from the IGN, as above.

We keep nothing from these exchanges. The address you type does not appear in the page address: only the area you are looking at, rounded to about one kilometre, appears there, so that a copied link reopens a map at the same place. These two services are French public services, operated under their own terms; they set no cookies.

5. Recipients

Your data is only accessible to yourself, to us, and to our technical processors and providers, listed below, who act on our instructions.

• Google Cloud EMEA Limited — serving of the oploguns.com site (Firebase Hosting) and its connection logs; storage of contact form messages, europe-west9 region (Paris, France). Technical logs (Cloud Logging) have no fixed location ("global").
• Google Analytics 4 (Google LLC) — audience measurement, only if you accept it.
• IGN (Géoplateforme, data.geopf.fr) — base map of the shooting range map: receives your IP address and the displayed area.
• Base Adresse Nationale (api-adresse.data.gouv.fr) — address search on that map: receives the typed text and your IP address.

6. Transfers outside the European Union

Contact form messages are hosted in France, in Paris. The host's technical logs (Cloud Logging) are processed by Google with no guaranteed location; audience measurement, if you accept it, is processed by Google LLC (United States) under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. For any other transfers, Google relies on the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.

7. Retention periods

• Contact form messages: 12 months.
• Technical logs: 12 months.
• Audience measurement: 14 months at most (see the cookie settings).
• Answer to the consent banner: 6 months, on your device.

The retention period for contact messages is enforced by a deletion rule set on their storage.

8. Security

Exchanges with our servers are encrypted in transit (TLS), and contact form messages are encrypted at rest in a storage space closed to any public access.

9. Your rights

You have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and portability, the right to withdraw at any time a consent you have given (without affecting what was done before), and the right to set instructions for what happens to your data after your death.

Any substantial change to this policy will be shown on this page, with its update date.
